Workplace Violence Prevention: A Practical Guide

Susan M. Sciara has her M.A. Counseling Psychology/Educational Psychology and is employed as a Workplace Improvement Analyst for the United States Postal Service, Northern Illinois District. She participates in the Threat Assessment Team that becomes involved in the management of threatening situations that have the potential to escalate into homicide or suicide. She conducts organizational assessments and intervenes with hostile workgroups in addition to consulting with managers about mental health issues as they manifest themselves in the workplace. She serves as a member of the Crisis Management Team.

She also leads a multi-disciplinary group called the "Chicagoland Workplace Violence Think Tank," which meets regularly to share resources and discuss workplace violence cases.

Ms. Sciara has a background in mental health and addictions with clinical experience in the treatment of violent individuals. She began working in the mental health field in 1976 and began applying her mental health skills to business settings in 1989.

She is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Chicago chapter of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals and is a member of Pet Partners, a volunteer organization that provides animal-assisted therapy.
